The other day, Lucy was making up songs in the car. One went like this:
I love you
I will take you to a promised land
a promised land in the sky
with lots of ropes and ladders and uncles
I knew she was crazy about uncles after my brother Jon came to visit last week, but the high regard for ropes and ladders is news to me.

Uncles have almost superhero status in our household, too. My kids worship the ground my brothers and brothers-in-law walk on, to the point that I think the aunts of the family sometimes feel a little slighted...
